For this kind of money, CD players will do so much more than just spin your discs...

Having just purchased the new cyrus cd8x and amp, I agree wholeheartedly with the review's sound quality assessment. My cd collection is getting another hearing.

The review however does not mention what amp and speaker combinations the test were done with, neither the make of the interface cable, analogue or digital. Also there is no open drawer button on the remote. If you have the cyrus amp as well, you cannot switch the amp or cd off separately from the remote.

Am i wrong in believing that the award winning Eastern Electric Minimax is being overlooked by most mags and reviewers?
Why was it not included in this test, it fits the criteria, and, from my own experience of it, is a stunning player, yet apart from Hifi world, who rate it highly, and Hifi Choice, who included it in their "beautiful systems" feature, everyone else seems to overlook it.
I rather think the outcome of this group teset would be different, had it (the minimax) been included.

HAS ANYONE OUT THERE USED THE NEW CYRUS CD8SE AND IF SO COULD YOU COMPARE IT TO THE CD8X AND THE PRIMARE I31 CD THANKS

Received my cd8x just a few days ago and I am in the process of playing and repalying all my favourite cd's. I own a heavyweight 70's amp and speakers and I was worried as to the compatibility of including the cd8x into such a system. Over all, I am very pleased with the sound quality. The bass is solid and the detail is quite excellent. Yes, there is a little brightness in the trebble, which sometimes, depending on the recording, can sound a little harsh. However, for most well produced recordings, of all genres, the sound quality is excellent. The cd drawer is not particularly smooth in operation, but that can be forgiven in view of the generally good build quality and very good performance of this quality cd player. I may decide to invest in the external regulated power supply, but not for a while.

Hi,

It would also be nice to include the consonance cd players. In HIFI choice the cd2.2 came just behind the shangling. I have the cheaper cd120 linear very nice for the money about 600 pounds. Very natural and analogue sounding - very musical - compared it to the Arcam cd73t, marantz cd7001,creek evos, rega apollo. Preferred the consonance cd120 linear easily - especially the mids so vivid and real sounding. It was cd player of the year in Hifi + and rave reviews online (tnt audio etc.)

Regards,

Steve.
