I am awaiting delivery of my new Sony KDL40 W2000.

Most tv reviews state that you have to change the default "out of the box" settings to achieve the best quality picture, of any new set.

A common way to do this is with a THX certified DVD. You have to search out a certain chapter from the main menu, and away you go.

Has anyone actually done this, and if so, can you add a bit of detail, to help me out here.

Many Thanks.

John

Try using Digital Video Essentials DVD or Monster ISF Calibration Disc.

Both are Excellent and have easy to follow instructions .

Check this website for more details:

I have the 46W2000 and did not use any calibration dvds. Switch off all picture processing "extras" and leave them off; switch to a news channel with good quality picture e.g. Sky News, and adjust contrast, brightness, colour etc. until you are getting good fleshtone and other colours.

Why not use the disc given free in next months Home Cinema Choice.

John, Part: 1/2

PROBLEM 1: Find the THX logos – language section.

Select; video or audio

PROBLEM 2: Obtain Next page - use DVD remote (FWD or Next) keys.

Use the TV's remote to alter the TV’s; contrast, brightness, Colour & sharpness.

PROBLEM 3: Read and follow instructions.

PROBLEM 4: There is a page with the THX logo in the centre and a shade of black and white boxes above and below.  I find it easy to just count either the 7 squares a long the top or the bottom.  Darken the 7th square so that I cannot see it.  Then I would gradually increase the brightness until I can just recognise the 7th square. The brightness is then correctly set.

PROBLEM 5: There is one screen/page where a pair of glasses is required (I think it is to alter the colour and tint) I would skip this page, because I donot have the glasses.

PROBLEM 6: Sharpness page - by altering the sharpness 1) the black and white lines actually changes and 2) the different coloured squares actually run/bleed and stop running/bleeding.
