Hi Jason
Little bit confused by your message. Are you saying that discs with DTS-HD on them don't play any audio at all, or just that you can't play the DTS-HD soundtracks on these discs, having to stick with Dolby Digital 5.1? Saying that you will be 'restricted to buying only 50% of discs available' implies that they don't work properly at all. Unless you're not actually willing to play an HD disc unless you can listen to a high-def audio soundtrack, which seems a little harsh!
To clarify as much as I can based on what you've said, the PS3 does not decode DTS HD, and most likely never will. DTS-HD is in fact an optional format for Blu-ray players rather than a mandatory one, and the PS3 is by no means the only Blu-ray player that won't handle it.
However, it's my understanding that DTS-HD is only an optional track on any disc that carries it, rather than being the only soundtrack available. In other words, you should be able to choose a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 audio track that should play fine.
I don't have Die Hard 4 or Shoot em up myself, but I'm going to order Die Hard 4.0 right now.
In the meantime, could you clarify whether you're saying that you don't get any sound at all from DTS-HD discs, or whether you can at least get a standard DTS or Dolby Digital mix off them?
And if you have any other DTS-HD discs in your collection, tell me what they are and I'll check them out for myself iwith my PS3 if I have any of them.
