What size tv screen would the majority say was the optimum for a normal living room and do you think they are getting to big.

I am planning on buying a lcd tv soon. And am not sure on which make is best. As i have never had an lcd tv before. I will be getting a large screen tv. My tv at the moment is a 28 inch. Please help.

37 to 42 inch I think unless you really want it to dominate the room. I have a Toshiba 37 inch X series with 1080p its smashing, of course the Z series is even nicer

I was debating between a Samsung and a Toshiba TV. I will now look at the Toshiba range. As friends of mine have Toshiba TV's and they also say they are brilliant. Thank You for your help. I think i will go with your suggestion of 37 to 42 Inch.

http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-Yd3YK8aWVOp/learningcenter/home/TV_placement.html this site has a placement and viewing distance vs screen size chart, its by no means gospel but gives you a good guide.

That's interesting...

The link suggests you will be fine sitting closer than the distances suggested by the likes of What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision...

Thanks for posting the link, some good stuff in there.

yes I know what you mean, I dont think its an exact science and will probably be different from one screen to another but its a guide at least.

Without sounding obvious it depends how big your living room is! We've got a 55" tv in ours , which whilst it doesn't exactly fade into the background doesn't dominate the room.

I  have a 28", looks quite small in the living room but having only moved a few months ago when i have managed to get everything else sorted i will be looking into getting a new one.

There does seem to be so much choice on the market and i suppose it depends how big your living room is to what size is best to get.

Hopefully the prices will fall a tad in the next few months.

It really depends on how its being used. I personally think freeview looks a bit pap on my 42" Pioneer as it shows up ALL the flaws. But if your main viewing is going to be hd or upscaled dvd then bigs good
