I've got my dvd player connected to the TV through component connection. When I use region 2 discs, the screen automatically changes to the correct display (4x3, 14x9 for menu screens and then widescreen for film), so there's no problem there. But when I play a region 1 disc, it won't automatically change to widescreen when the movie starts - i have to do it manually and it's really annoying!! any ideas?

What TV do you have, Will?

Nothing special, its a Bush RF6685VPL 28" CRT. I was thinking that it was something to do with the dvd player. A setting on it or something?

I've no idea i'm afraid, Will. I doubt most DVD players would allow that much control over something like that, especially giving you the choice for the player to perform differently depending on what region disc it had. There are similar posts on here re. sky-receivers, it might be worth having a read through of them to see if anyone has any advice that might be relevant to your DVD problem!
