hi there, i have a few questions about playing music at home.

i want to get the best sound from my music. i'm fed up with listening through computer speakers.

i'll divide the question in 2 to make it easier.

so first of all the player side of things. what is best or are they the same -1.playing cds via a standalone cd player 2. playing cds through your computer sound card 3. playing cds through a standard dvd player/home cinema system

secondly what to look for in speakers? i have been using logitech x-210 speakers which arent bad for the money but i'm sure i could get better sound with more expensive ones!  so again can any sort of computer speakers compare with 'proper' floorstanding speakers designed to connect to a hi fi/amp ?

as you can probably tell i'm a bit of a novice, but i'm a believer in quality over quantity and i'd like to enjoy my music at its best. when listening to a friends system with jamo floor speakers i did notice the sound was clearer and seemed more spaced out, i could hear each instrument more clearly.

so i ask all the above questions based on playing cd's. i'll ask again later about converting to digital music, but i dont want to get confused just yet!

Hi James,i,ve always played C.D.s on a conventional player,i use a Sugden two box system, for DVDs i use a DVD player,"can computer speakers compare to Hi-Fi speakers" i dont think so,i use TDL Referance 5 Transmission line speakers, six sided,7 drivers quarter wave,i,ve heard computer speakers, horrible squeaky things, ive never heard Jamo speakers, though i have seen them, and didnt like the look of them.My advice would be to get yourself a decent amp[if you,re into floorstanders about 100 watts rms ] some decent speakers, and a C.D. player, you can always add to it later, and all the component parts dont have to be from the same maunufacturer.............Dave
