Hi I'm hoping someone can help me out as I've no idea if what I'm trying to do is possible.

I am trying to hook up my virgin cable box to my onkyo amp.  I have a scart to RCA (I think that's what it's called).  It has a scart at the one end which goes into the vbox and 6 leads at the other end with audio L out, audio L in, audio R out, audio R in, Video out and Video in.

When I connect the 2 audio out leads to the amps analog audio input jacks I get sound from the vbox (the amp is connected to the TV by an HDMI cable).  However I get no picture when I connect the video out to the composite video input jack.

I have a hidden cable run from alcoves on one side of my living room taking an HDMI cable and speaker cables to the TV on the opposite wall.

Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me there is a way to get the picture directly from the vbox into the amp to take it via hdmi to the TV.  There is also an RF out on the vbox is this of any use?

 thanks

 Mark

Your onkyo amp should have a HDMI 'OUT' on it (meaning you need 2 hdmis)

One hdmi goes from the 'v-box' to the onkyo hdmi IN. Then another from the onkyos hdmi 'OUT' to the tv.

HOWEVER ~ the v box doesnt output hd sound, so its a bit wasted that way

Personally id connect the OPTICAL OUT from the  v-box to the onkyo and connect the hdmi straight to the tv

I'd second that. Was playing around with this the other night and the optical out on the v-box seems the best route, although to be fair the only advantage I saw was that the BBC HD channel came through as Dolby Digital.. though still only showed two channel input. All other channels, inclusing movies showed as basic two channel PCM

I was wrong on this actually, some of the programs on BBC HD do come through as 5.1 sound, just not all of them.
