THE PHENOMENAL RUTHIE FOSTER

This CD incorporates songs which hold Ruthie Foster's roots, her present and hopes for the future

Her voice has a natural sound. It's robust, full of emotion and never strained. If you need a comparison, think Tina Turner and Joan Armatrading....but she really is unique. Her sound is powerful gritty soulful, and then, smooth and bluesy and then, again a glimpse of spiritual gospel. This CD covers a lot of genre ground and as Thor Christensen states " The disc serves up 57 varieties of soul...."

The Title track, "Phenomenal Woman," is the poem by Dr. Maya Angelou and an appropriate accolade for this very accomplished singer/songwriter. She wrote three of the tracks,, "Heal Yourself", "Harder Than The Fall" and "I Don't Know What To Do With My Heart." They reveal a level of personal vulnerability that she’d previously shied away from sharing." Read more . LINK TO HER OFFICIAL SITE .  She plays piano, Wurlitzer electric piano, guitar and if that's not enough she also took part in the footstomping and hand clapping. This really is The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster.

Hi Carl, i

If you had to choose a favourite track which would it be?  I heard this one and it was the decider when It came to buying it.  "Harder Than The Fall"  It is sort of sad and yet hopeful....

Hi Carl,

I've really got to thank you for that! I wouldn't have found this if you hadn't.    It's always mentioned in reviews as it's the one which is a cappella.

These are the lyrics and a  video of her perfrming this one at the Living Room NY : video of Ruthie Foster  This is so good..and to see her enhances the whole thing!  Start clapping!
