I have a Samsung HT-A100 Digital Home Cinema System. After setting up I was dismayed to find there is no facility for adjusting the Audio. I contacted Samsung on their Web Site and the advice they gave was worse than useless. I went back to the Retailer and was advised to life the Sub Woofer off the floor onto a stand. I was assured that this would solve the problem. It didn't. The biggest problem is the amount of Bass on normal speech. Booming Bass is the best decription. The System is linked to Series 6 Samsung 40" LCD TV. Can anyone help?

Not much you can do if there are absolutely no ways of changing the sound coming out (Usually some sort of sound processing, ROCK, THEATRE etc) Id suggest covering it up or do whatever you can to 'dampen' the sound coming out of it (foam wadding etc)

What you've got is uncorntrolled bass. I would start by pulling the speakers away from the wall and yes, I would consider putting something under the sub like a marble chopping board (if that's big enough). Maake sure that the sub doesn't have any furniture blocking the drivers at the side and is situated in free space. For the two other speakers, see if you can't raise them up a little so that the bottom of the speaker isn't resonating with furniture. Usually I would put speakers on cones so that there is a bit of space under the speaker. You could try a blob of Blu Tak under each of the four corners of the two speakers. Resting speakers flat on hollow wooden furniture can cause bass boom. The settings that you should have a look at are; the 'Dynamic Range Compression' feature on page 49 of the manual and look at the 'P. Bass' function also on page 49 which should allow you to adjust the bass. Hope this helps.

Best change this before you watch Batman The Dark Knight then... Bale's "BatVoice"TM will positively resonate you around the room.

Best change this before you watch Batman The Dark Knight then... Bale's "BatVoice"TM will positively resonate you around the room. I dunno what they were thinking with that. With the technology they have, id have gone with some sort of throat analyser that changes AS he speaks. As it is, its just laughable! The REAL 'BOOM' is when Joker says "I believe that what doesnt kill you only makes you STRANGER" right at the beginning

Was some voice modulation apparently. Whilst Bale clearly speaks as deeply as he can, it's certainly enhanced. Haven't noticed too much on Ledger's voice. Though the sound guys will always push things to the limit for physical effect. Great film though.

Thank you all verymuch indeed. I don't know what I would havedone without your suggestions as I felt like putting a hammer through the damb thing. The biggest let down was the response I received from SAMSUNG. Their attitude was very disappointing indeed. They have my money so they couldn't care less. Thank you all once again.

William, just out of interest, which of the suggestions do you think was the most effective?
|

Hi Christopher. I have taken your advice and lifted the speakers. This seems to have been helpful but the PRC and the P Bass is yet another disappointment as it doesn't appear to have made much difference. I have just had The Dark Knight loaned to me by my Son and Mickylowe was right about that. I thought the speakers were going to explode, so I had to turn off the HT-A100 and go with the TV speakers. I wonder why I bothered with this set-up. I thank all of you for taking the time to give me advice. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

Unlucky buy mate. At the end of the day it IS a cheapie unit which will have MANY flaws (uncrontrolled bass obviously being one)

Hi Rik H. The times I have said "you get what you pay for" and boy have I got a Turkey. Still, this is the last time I listen to a Salesperson's recommendation. I asked "what unit would you recommend with the Series 6 Samsung TV" and this is what I end up with. Cheers.

William, if its not too late take it back, after all they recomended it, and your not happy, they may not give your cash back but may exchange for one you want ????

I have just bought the same unit and I have same problem. The bass is far too much. On my old very very cheap surround sound you had the ability to go into the equaliser at least. Everything else about the unit is great!!! At the moment I am having to remove the Subwoofer as its horrible. Last night watching layer cake my upstairs neighbors came down to ask me to reduce the bass. That really annoyed me but that is another issue!!!!!!! If anyone comes up with a good idea to reduce the level of bass to come out of the subwoofer then please let me know!!!!!!

Hi Samuel. How did you remove the sub?

If you bought it purely on the salepersons unbelievably bad recommendation, SURELY you can take it back and complain?

I literally disconnected the cables from the back of it. Not an ideal situation at all. I have emailed Samsung but not holding much hope for a fix. Also emailed pixmania, not sure about their returns policy though. I almost want a device which sits on the wire which reduces the signal or something! grrrrrrrrr, its so annoying as the other features are great and the colour is perfect

One thing you may want to try (when your neighbours are out ) is to thrash the hell out of it. Subs in particular take a LONG time to 'bed in', and until then sound really slow and 'boomy'. Play some cds with real low end clout. Once fully run in they tend to sound a lot 'tighter' and not as dominant As in example, my dads wilson benesche powerhouse is still running in after more than 6 months

Dont know the model mate, but if they have ports, try plugging them

I am going to throw the towel in on this one. Anyone know a decent mid-price range replacement I could buy? I am a pensioner so keep it sensible, and thank you all for your kind suggestions.
