Hi,

Does anyone know of shortcut keys for using an Apple iPod?

For example:
Switching between normal and random track play without having to go deep into the menus?

Cheers,
Jason.

I'm not aware of any shortcut keys on the iPod, neither is Apple - or at least they're not saying. iPod mini may have some - Ashley Norris should be reviewing it for AV Review later this week.

Thats the trouble with these elegant user interfaces... The lack of 'buttons' often hinders access to some features. It's the same on lots of portable Discman with their trany remotes...

there are no shortcut keys on the iPod unfortunately, one to switch between normal and random would be brilliant but I'm afraid its just a pipedream. About the closest you get to shortcuts are holding down play to turn it off and holding down menu to turn the backlight on.

Discovered another 'shortcut' by accident yesterday, if you press the select button(the button in the middle of the click wheel) whilst playing a song you will then be able to skip through to a certain point in the song with the scroll wheel, if you press the select button again you will be shown stars to rate the particular track.

It won't change you life, but (moderately to vaguely) interesting nonetheless.

On the iPod classic:

1. During playing music, press the select button three times and then use the click wheel to scroll to off, songs, albums

2. Hold the select button to select song on on the go playlist

3. Press the select button once during song play then use the clect wheel to skip to a different point in the song. (In videos press select twice then use click wheel)

4. During playing music, press the select button twice and use the click wheel to give the song a star rating

5. In the menu of any iPod hold the play button to turn the iPod off

6. Hold down menu during playing music to go back to the main menu

Hope this helps!

woa rodney ur far behind

thats sort of a basic thing

but yeah i know some things that can be useful -

to reset the ipod-

1 lock, then unlock

2 hold down menu and the centre button

to hard reset is the same as above but no lock then unlock

and to force the ipod into disk mode, reset, then hold play and the centre button
