I have not kept up to date with the latest speaker technology, but i wonder if I can hear the difference. I have got a pair of Wharfdales old E70's, which I have always enjoyed. I have listened to other brands of speakers, which sound okay. However most of my record collection is on vinyl. Most of the recent speaker specifications are tested on CD's and not old vinyl records for their reproduction sound quality. Is it worth paying top of the range prices for top of the range sound speaker equipment that cannot improve the quality of vinyl? What do yoy think?

Well, we cannot tell you if you can hear the difference or not! The only way is to go to a good shop and arrange a demo to see for yourself.

Vinyl records can sound fantastic and if you have a quality turntable and amplification then getting top quality speakers is well worth the money.

For what it's worth, I find my top vinyl records more convincing than anything in my cd collection (but then I do have a top quality turntable).

Like I say, the only way is to find out for yourself...

Like Paul says you should go out there and try to get a few demo's, I'm sure you'll be impressed with the developments in the speaker world. That said you say you've always enjoyed the quality of your current speakers so consider whether you really need to update your speakers at all.

Michael: I too was in that position with a perfect pair of 1970's JBL Studio Monitors.
If there was one Gauge that rate a speakers
ability to Re-produce the Instruments just as they were Miked you could put in front an any set & make your choice. The reality is that The Recording Mixer, the Studio Acoustics, the Equipment & Equalizers, the re-mastering & the quality of the Formating all come into play. Now your Own electronics,Cables,Acoustics will also alter your sound- The new Manufacturing
techniques & Materials are vastly superior to 70,s 80, or even 90' products. When I
hooked up a Pair of High end Wharfedales to my $8,000 worth of gear I was blown away at the Music I never heard or heard with too much Noiseness..The soundstage opens up,The
bass cracks like a snare Drum with no Mush.
The mids & Highs trail off in a Orchestral fashion. For precise Re creation of Musical
instruments- Get a new pair of Towers and Wharfedale,Quad,Spendor,Naim would be a great place to start your journey.
