I've just acquired a (brand new unused in box)Fisher MT-6360 turntable. I'm guessing that it is about 25 years old.

The user manual states that it is a 'Full Automatic Operation, Linear Motor &
Infrared Remote Control'.

Does anyone know anything about this turntable ?? What will the sound
quality be like ? Is Linear Drive the same as Direct Drive ? Is this
better/worse than a belt drive system ?

Thank you for any advice !!!

Regards,

Andy

From memory fisher was the higher end part of Sanyo. Linear probably refers to the tracking of the tone arm rather than the drive mechanism which is probably direct drive. In current terms it would probably be somewhere near the budget end of the spectrum. Hope this helps.

It is indeed a Linear tracker. Very gimicky to have had a remote control. I think they sold mostly in places like Germany. Fisher was never very big here. Roughly 1980 is when I would call it.

Fisher was an American company with considerable pedigree in the valve receiver market. Latterly Sanyo did indeed take them over in 1975 and they became a shadow of it's former self (like Marantz).

The chances are that what you have is an average direct drive turntable that will probably beat most CD players because of the sonic advantages of vinyl.

The original American Fisher stuff is very good sounding but large and didn't match with what the UK market wanted in the 60's and 70's.
