I have a Sony SS-WS5 passive subwoofer with 2, +/- Clip-In connections. My Sony STR-LV500 receiver has just one phono subwoofer connection. What is the best way to connect? Buy a subwoofer splitter and cut the 2 phono plugs off so the wires push into the clips, or what? Would be very grateful for any advice! Thanks.

I think your receiver is built to deliver to an active rather than passive sub. If the socket is RCA then it will be delivering a line level signal which is too low for your sub.

The specifications of your amp are above. Basically you only have 5 channels which are front centre, 2x front side and 2x front rear. There is no amplification for a sub.

Yeah, it looks an interesting amp. I'm using digital amps myself and am having headaches connecting a sub.
