Can anyone tell me the diiference between listening to full range Centre & Front left & Right Kef Reference speakers and the more modern way of having a Centre , Left & right & a sug woofer? Which would give the best sound or is very subjective?

A sub woofer simply boosts the bass response of your speakers by having a dedicated bass channel fed from your av amp. If you have smaller speakers you may very well need a sub woofer. Personally I have full range left and right B&W's and find that I do not need more bass. In my case I do not connect the sub woofer output from my av amp. One thing I have found is to ensure that speakers that do not handle bass very well should be set to "small" in the av amp setup. This ensures that bass which would have been chanelled to that small speaker is actually diverted to the larger speakers in your system which improves the sound.
