Strengths: Clean sounding, lots of detail. Would probably suit somebody who listens mostly to classical music.
Weaknesses: Seemed to roll off at low frequencies. A little too reserved. Lacked power and punch, especially in lower registers compared with my (first generation, antique) Philips CD100 player
Overall: Pretty good, but I returned it and swopped up to a Marantz SA8400
'Reservations about low frequency punch, otherwise very good'
Strengths: Lots of detail, stereo image tends towards giving a complete joined-up "wall of sound" rather than two separate channels. SACD is better still.
Weaknesses: Reservations about punch and attack at lower frequencies. Also rolled off somewhat at low frequencies using leads originally selected for ancient Philips CD100, which had excellent LF power and attack. Change of interconnect cable to Monster Cable 400 Mk II improved matters, but jury still out. May be impedance mismatch problem with passive pre-amp and Naim NAXO 3 active crossover. Doesn't like Monster Cable Discus CD stabiliser, but may be ok with SID (this is probably because the mechanism is a DVD rather than CD one).
Overall: For somebody who is not so fussy as I am about LF extension and "grunt", it is a good piece of equipment to listen to. Can be improved by CD stabiliser, but make sure that you use one which is compatible.
'WORTH EVERY PENNY. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, AND SOME!'
Strengths: Work well with any kind of music. Fast, detailed, they give deeper bass than you'd expect from any headphones. You will have to spend a heluva lot to better these!
Weaknesses: I forgot I had them on (easily done) and stepped on the cable, now I have a poor connection at the headphone end of the right channel cable
Overall: You can get better headphones. But, then again, perhaps you don't want to lay out 10 grand for Sennheiser electrostatics?
