Pioneer EX series speakers

By AVR

Pioneer has announced the availability of its new series of high-end speakers, comprising the floor-standing S-1EX, centre S-7EX and bookshelf S-2EX.

The three-way floor-standing and centre speakers feature two 18cm TAD woofers with carbon-aramid cones, and a concentric TAD mid-range/tweeter speaker unit including a 14cm magnesium mid-range cone and a 2.5cm beryllium tweeter. With each model featuring this tweeter, Pioneer claims there's no need for supplementary super tweeters to reproduce the very high frequencies (up to 100kHz) of DVD-Audio or SACD formats.

The speaker units are assembled on a heavy, rigid cabinet (up to 100mm thick), which has been specially designed to help minimise the internal standing waves. Furthermore, the front baffle has been shaped to help time alignment of the sound.

The EX series is available now in a finish of real beech veneer or dark wood veneer, with the S-1EX costing around £4,500, the S-7EX priced at £2,000 and the S-2EX in the region of £3,500. For more information on the series visit www.pioneer.co.uk
