It seems that Microsoft is taking a leaf from
Sony's book, with yet more interminable delays to the European launch of the much-speculated-upon portable media player, the Zune.
After an initial launch date touted sometime in 2006, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has told German media that there will now not even be a Euro 2007 launch for the Zune following poor sales margins and performance. And with only around a million sold (compared to the iPod's slightly more impressive 100 million sold), you can't argue with his grasp of the figures.
Some websites are reporting news that a second-gen Flash based Zune is due to land across the pond sometime in the run-up to Christmas, but when we haven't even seen the first, it's tough to get too excited.
So the moral of the story? If you're hanging on to your cash for the Zune's arrival, it may be worth jumping on the bandwagon and buying a 'Pod. Or, of course, any other generic portable music/video device.
