Show report: Sound & Vision Bristol Show 2008 pt5

ThemeScene HD80, HD81 and HD81LV projectors £1,995 The HD80, HD81 and HD81LV are the latest additions to ThemeScene's not inconsiderable range and are all Full HD toting DLP frame throwers with DeepColor HDMI 1.3, 1080p/24p, 10-bit digital projection and 'professional cinema standard brightness' of 1300 ANSI lumens with the HD80, 1400 ANSI lumens with the HD81 and an eye-scorching 2500 ANSI lumens on the HD81LV on screens up to 3.5m wide (108in diagonal). Other stats were listed as 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 27, 30 and 32 decibel audible running noise respectively and 1.5m to 12.5m projection distance, making them suitable for most any size room. Universally slick looking packages, each houses a trio of HDMI v1.3 ports (two on the HD80) alongside DVI, component, SCART and S-Video connectors. Both the HD81 and HD81LV feature separate controller units. All are available now.

Ingenious Audio ZVOX loudspeaker Price £TBC Adding to the recent swathe of one-box sound systems to flood the market, Ingenious Audio's ZVOX was on display and demoed with a range of PS3 games. Touted as a suitable sound solution for rooms up to 500 square feet, you can hook up your TV, PC, DVD player, MP3 player, CD player and game console for sonic playback. Internally there's a powered subwoofer, three front-firing drivers and patent pending PhaseCue Virtual Surround Sound and Infinite Compliance technologies delivering a meaty if not particularly finessed sound. It'll be interesting to hear it with a challenging CD source.

Mitsubishi HC6000 projector Price £TBC Mitsubishi also showed its latest Full HD projector in the boxier (and if we're honest much uglier) HC6000 home cinema projector. The Mitsu uses 3LCD as opposed to the Texas Instruments DLP technology favoured by ThemeScene, but still achieves 1920x1080 resolution with 24p reproduction, 1,000 ANSI lumens and 13,000:1 contrast ratio. Lens shift and motorised zoom singles it out as a user-friendly and versatile beast, and the 19-decibel noise level is significantly lower than the ThemeScene models. It carries dual HDMI v1.3 as well as Mini D-Sub, component, S-Video and composite connectors.

Mordaunt-Short Performance 6 Price £4,000 These limited edition (only 250 will be made) Performance 6 speakers are a 'subtly revised' version of the well-received Performance 6 models released by Mordaunt-Short in 2004. Released to commemorate the company's 40th anniversary, the pairing sports Aspirated Tweeter Technology for a 'ribbon-like open and detailed treble', Continuous Profile Cone mid-range/bass drivers and proprietary monocoque polymer resin cabinets designed to stay free of music-muddling resonance. Finished in midnight black, the key areas of improvement have been in the crossover and cabinet performance in order to try to achieve the zenith of realistic reproduction of every kind of music. But if you want them, you'll have to hurry…

Leema Tucana, Hyrda, Corvus amplifiers £2,995 each Better known as a speaker brand, Leema had on display a few choice offerings from its well-received AV range with the Tucana stereo amp, Hydra intelligent power amp and Corvus centre amp and stereo sub controller. Designed to provide audiophile stereo music reproduction with the versatility to expand into a bigger sonic set-up, each is undeniably style-orientated and look even better in the flesh. The Tucana stereo amp and Hydra intelligent power amp both benefit from audiophile engineering, with a matching frequency response of 20Hz-100kHz each and power output into 8ohms of 150 watts RMS per channel. The Corvus centre amplifier with stereo sub controller features the same amp as in the Tucana but this time has four filter slopes and the ability to reach all the way to 7.1-channel surround sound.

Lumley Heliosphere turntable Price £TBC Based on the obscenely brilliant Stratosphere turntable, the Heliosphere was turning every head that walked past it. Very few details were released (indeed the press release consisted entirely of a photograph!), meaning we'll all just have to wait a little while longer to get the lowdown on the stats, but it just looked so hot we had to include it.
