UK transformer passive preamp specialist Music First introduced the Passive Magnetic Mk2, which at £3,500 is its most affordable remote control preamp yet. Volume is controlled by a stepper motor and it contains a bigger transformer than the standard version.

The biggest valve at the show was on the magnificent Kronzilla from the Czech Republic, the T-1610 triode was developed by KR Audio Electronics and can deliver up to 50 watts. Kronzilla SXI is a stereo integrated amplifier that weighs 50kgs and stands 55cm high.

Lindemann showed its first integrated amplifier, the 882 (€7,800) has a dual mono power amplifier section and produces 240 watts a side into four ohms using Thermaltrak output transistors.

The company also showed its cost-no-object floorstanding speaker, as yet unnamed it has a laminated cabinet with a cork centre, an inter-order crossover alignment developed by the company and Thiele & Partner ceramic drive units. Built to order only in your choice of finish it will cost €15,000 a pair.

This the latest tonearm from Sheffield's Wb uses carbon nanotubes to increase its stiffness and strength to weight ratio. Other changes include decoupled counterweights, a carbon fibre anti-skate system and threaded VTA adjustment. Cost will be £2,500.

One trend we'd like to see more of is cowhide covered loudspeakers. Revox's Re-sound range is available in a variety of leather finishes including the most natural. The L 120 is a four way floorstander that stands 1.2m high and costs €3,800 in cowhide.

The UK built Podium 2 (£4,000) is a full range flat panel speaker that claims not to use electrostatic, ribbon or NXT technology but a proprietary technology that its maker Shelley Katz calls Palinaudiodrome. This model stands 1.37m high and weighs a mere 10kg.

Israel's best know speaker brand showed a prototype of its all carbon fibre Fat Lady (c€20,000), this has sandwich cones in CF and its appearance was moulded by an architect from the OMA design team. The cabinet is only 10mm thick an thus has a high 56 litre volume, finished product is expected in September.
