The new full HD Connect 32 from Loewe is a bit like a Mercedes, you can add pretty well any feature your heart might desire to it, 160Gb hard drive recorder, wireless net adapter, Ethernet connection you name it. Prices start at £1,700.

Pioneer PDX-Z9
The latest Pioneer receiver is novel inasmuch as it combines an SACD player with internet radio reception in a sleek box that has USB and mini-jack inputs for PC and MP3 players. Output is quoted as 50 watts/four ohms and the price is £650.

Bathomatic
Something no contemporary home should be without is the Bathomatic which fills your bath to a pre-set temperature and depth, adding essential oils and/or bubble bath. It can be operated from a PC or RS232 automation system, it costs £6,900 but you'll need to supply your own bath!

Opus WCU600
The latest control panel from Audio Partnership brand Opus will control the full gamut of third party audio, video and lighting systems and according to its makers does anything a Crestron will do for a quarter of the price. The 3.5in touchscreen version costs £575.

Cabasse Alcyone
The French hi-fi brand has been dramatically shrinking its designs for the install market and come up with the stylish Alcyone, available as a wall/shelf mount or on a three-prong stand it works with the Santorin subwoofer and costs £599 for a 5.1 channel system.

Orbitsound T12
T12 is what Orbitsound call a Soundbar, it's an iPod dock which uses the company's airSOUND technology to produce stereo sound from one box with six drivers in it accompanied by a subwoofer. Price is £349.
