|
Having established itself in the £2,500 plus, high-end AV sector with the FMJ AV series, in 2004 Arcam went for the premium receiver market with the £1,300 AVR300 and the £1,000 AVR250. And when it came to designing models to bridge the gap between these two ranges, Arcam decided further improvement in sound could only be achieved by separating the preamp processor from the power amplifier - hence the emergence of the new AVP700 preamp and P1000 power amp.
The AVP700 draws heavily on the design work of the renowned FMJ AV8 processor, and offers an impressive feature set including video format up-conversion, HDMI digital video switching and full duplex RS232 to help the AVP700 integrate into the most complex installations. The P1000 boasts 135 watts of power into eight ohms and uses seven precisely matched channel modules to help ensure consistency of sound from whatever direction it comes.
The two components form a £3,000 system (£1,400 for AVP700, £1,600 for P1000) that Arcam hopes will outperform similarly priced competition, especially those expensive one-box receivers.
