UPDATE: This competition is closed!
Congratulations to Steve Kenderdine who will be recieving is GR1.2 very soon.
There'll be a new competition soon so keep your eyes peeled!
After an absence of nearly twenty years, Goldring has recently returned to turntable production, with its fantastic GR1.2 being one in a new line of products. To celebrate this, we've got one to give away to our members - but before we tell you how to win, here's a lowdown on the GR1.2.
This £140 turntable incorporates an ultra-low vibration 12-pole synchronous motor, a high quality tonearm with a close tolerance, double ball-race bearing assembly and a super-rigid aluminium arm tube. Optimum tracking is achieved with the aid of frictionless magnetic bias compensation and the arm comes ready fitted and aligned with a £35 Goldring Elektra moving magnet phono cartridge. Finally, the main platter is made from low resonance Medite and the whole assembly is finished with a smart clear hinged cover.
So you want to win the GR1.2 and get the best from your vinyl collection? Ok, for this competition we thought we'd go for a pop quiz. We've got an artist and album in our heads and you've got to guess who we're thinking of. That's impossible we hear you cry! Well, below there's a clue to the album we've got in mind, and from now until the closing date of 1 November, we'll drop a few more hints to keep you on the right track. So keep checking back on this page for updates. The first member to guess the correct artist and album will win.
To make your entry, just post on the forum thread below. But for this competition, the rules are that each member is only allowed to make five posts per day. Any more and you'll be disqualified - we don't want you going post crazy in there.
First clue: Which artist links a trout, a weasel and a moondog?
Good response to the last clue, and you know what, some of you were even getting quite warm. So now it starts to get tricky...
Second clue: What album contains coded references to Gene Pitney, four seasons and 2ozs of plastic with a hole in the middle?
Final Clue: The artist had his first brush with fame when he appeared on TV playing a bicycle. The album cover features a cartoon referencing one of his Italian tours, infamously plagued by mosquitoes and riots.
Good Luck!
