We love shiny new stuff, but even better is our love for shiny new stuff that's affordable. That's why, like some fizzy drink-fuelled kid we're jumping around at the news of Marantz's new entry-level DV4001 DVD player and SR4001 AV receiver.
At just £170 the DV4001 DVD player serves up a platter of impressive features including 720p and 1080i upscaling via HDMI, progressive scan capability and support for DVD-V, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, S-VCD, WMA9, DivX6.0, HDCD, HD-JPEG-encoded discs. At the heart of the DV4001 there's a 108MHz/12-bit video DAC, with a 24-bit/192kHz DAC taking care of audio matters. In addition, Marantz has focused on flexibility by utilizing a Flasher In, a RS-232C communication port for two-way communication and firmware upgrades, and D-Bus control so for custom installation.
Accompanying the DV4001 is the SR4001 home cinema receiver, which at £380 delivers 80 watts across each of its seven channels. The SR4001 is well stocked with connections, highlights being two HDMI inputs and one out, three component ins and one out (with the option of S-Video-to-component video upconversion). The power amplifier section uses a Crystal 192 kHz/24-bit DAC and processing via a 32-bit Digital Signal Processing circuitry decoding digital surround sound standards including, Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DPL IIx, CSII, DTS 96/24, and Dolby Headphone.
Both the DV4001 and SR4001 will hit the shelves this month.
