Boston Acoustics Horizon HS 450 & HS 460

Boston Acoustics has announced two new floorstanding speakers to its range, the HS 450 and HS 460.

Delivered with the tag of 'not a wooden box in sight', these are speakers for the 21st Century audio enthusiast, made of modern materials like heavy-duty ABS plastic and offered with a variety of unique interior-design style options.

Built from heavyweight curved moulded self-damping ABS cabinets with extensive MDF internal reinforcement and smooth moulded baffles that are curved to reduce diffraction, the Horizons are supposed to be as acoustically sound as aesthetically pleasing.

Internally, the HS 450 sports dual 5 1/4in mid-woofers with dual passive radiators while the HS 460 uses 6 1/2in mid-woofers with the same passive radiators.

Both feature 1in Kortec soft dome tweeters with MagnaGuard video shielding to protect against magnetic interference; Deep Channel Design (DCD) for more bass from less amplifier power; Maximised Bass Output System (MBOS) for improved bass acoustics and Reduced Baffle Diffraction Design (RBDD) for wider, smoother dispersion. Gold binding posts also come as standard.

Retailing at £470 for the HS 450 and £670 for the HS 460, there are also matching Horizon bookshelf and centre speakers as well as subwoofers to create a system 'for any purpose'.

Boston also offers a Personal Option Plan for tailoring the design of the Horizon to the owner's tastes, with replaceable speaker grilles, soft-touch painted finish and integrated colour-coordinated rubber trim to obtain the ultimate finish. Nice.
