With HD DVD well and truly deceased, it's time for the industry to show its commitment to Blu-ray. And what better example than AV specialist Goldmund's $17,000 Eidos 20 BD spinner.
The Swiss company is claiming to be the first 'high-end audio/video manufacturer' to offer a Blu-ray player, as the Eidos 20 BD 'embodies the Goldmund high-tech refinement that has made the Swiss-based company a leader in the audiophile community for the last 30 years'.
Technology-wise, that huge lump of money buys you the finest Swiss AC-Curator power supply circuit alongside magnetic damping that dramatically improves sound and video stability and dynamics.
There's also Mechanical Grounding construction that removes spurious vibrations from the player mechanism that contribute to blurred images and increased screen jitter.
The unit itself isn't the prettiest we've seen and there's no mention of its BD-Live skills, which makes it a tough one to justify at this knee-weakening price, though there's a fair chance its pictures will be pretty darn good.
