Fast-growing download service 7digital.com has teamed up with Warner Music to become the first European download store to offer DRM-free Warner Music MP3 downloads.
Currently available to customers in the UK, Ireland, Spain, France and Germany, 7digital seems to be gunning for the industry big guns like iTunes, and is running a promotion with selected albums from Warner Music available for a limited period at £5 (or €7) each.
The collaborators are also working to offer an extended range of digital music products such as album bundles containing additional content. The site will also feature dedicated artist and label pages that can be edited remotely by artists and music labels to keep fans up to date with the latest news and releases.
John Reid, President at Warner Music Europe commented, 'This deal will offer music fans a new level of flexibility in their use of tracks… We believe that providing customers with this assurance of interoperability will encourage sales of music downloads and ultimately help the development of new digital music experiences'.
The addition of Warner Music's MP3 catalogue means that more than 80 per cent of 7digital.com's 3.5 million tracks are now DRM-free.
