A new concept radio system has been looked into in association with the BBC and the fruits of that labour have just been unveiled, in the rather drab shape of the Olinda Radio.
No ordinary tuner, the Olinda features a plug-in module that lights up when friends are online using the Beeb's 'play now' service to listen to radio. When the light's on, just hit a switch and you can listen in to the same broadcast using Wi-Fi.
This plug-in module is merely the tip of the iceberg though, with further ideas being created. The Klippit module can take a station you're listening to and liking, and with a single button press add it to your Facebook profile; the Volume Voting module rates your most popular songs depending on whether you turn volume up or down and there are more looking at everything from VoIP connector to MP3 player/recorder and phone charger.
Still only a concept, but we rather like the idea - especially if it could be used with internet radio.
