After speculation and rumour and one particularly spicy whiff of truth from a false report on Amazon.co.uk, Sony has finally relented and announced a price and release date for its PS3 add-on service.
PlayTV is an accessory that effectively turns a PS3 into a personal video recorder. Fitted with dual tuners, it has access to Freeview, a seven-day EPG and can record one channel direct to the PS3's admittedly puny 40GB hard drive while you watch another.
The dual tuners also open up the likes of pause, rewind and fast-forward of live TV.
One particularly cool feature is the PSP compatibility, where owners of all three products can access the PS3 via Wi-Fi from anywhere in the world and record, set to record and watch back live and recorded TV direct on the PSP. Your own global personalised TV service, if you will.
The bad news is that, after a claimed and hoped-for July release at around £60, the actual unit won't be with us until September, and will cost a not-so-cheap 99 euros, more like £80 at the currently unfavourable exchange rate.
