The Times has reported that Apple is 'poised' to announce that it will start selling films on the UK iTunes site, long after they have been available on its US counterpart.
The rumour suggests that most of the major and independent Hollywood studios are in and that sale and rental of their movies will start within months, with prices 'on a par' with DVDs.
Apple has apparently signed agreements with Disney, Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Warners, Lions Gate and MGM - with only Sony Pictures and Universal Studios absent from the anticipated agreement. The deal also purports to include the Canadian territories.
Final details and pricing are to be finalised, as Apple has said it wants to follow flexible pricing while the studios 'would not want to undercut DVD prices', which could imply prices from anywhere between £6 and £25 to buy.
