Chord's new mains cable

The Power Chord

The Chord Company has been designing and manufacturing cables for sixteen years now, and for the last two of those it's been beavering away on the Power Chord shielded mains cable. Finally, after rigorous testing, listening and safety approvals, it's available to buy.

The Power Chord has been designed for components using IEC mains connectors and the company hopes that it will help improve dynamics on drum sounds and bass parts as well as bringing out subtle nuances of playing and timing further up the frequency range.

The complex shielding system is similar to the one found on its Signature speaker cable and involves a variety of performance enhancing techniques. Firstly, three sets of stranded conductors are built using copper and then insulated. Then, there's the outer jacket which is made from PVC (to minimise mechanical noise), and surrounding this is the shielding system. Around the shielding system is a translucent orange PVC jacket, again applied to minimise mechanical noise. Finally, at the end of the cable is an MK 13 amp plug.

Phew, now it's becoming clear why the cable took two years to manufacture!

You'll be able to buy the Power Chord in lengths of one metre (£130), one and a half metres (£140) and two metres (£150), with custom lengths to order.
