Denon's new heavy-duty universal player claims not one, but two technological firsts. As well as its DVDO 1080p 10-bit precision video upscaling facility, which allows it to upscale standard DVDs to HD quality, it also boasts the Realta HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) HD-processing chip, which Denon claims allows it to produce the best picture available from standard DVD.
It's an impressive claim, and although we've come across a few DVD players recently that can upscale the picture quality of standard DVD, including models from Marantz and Samsung, we'll be very interested to see if the Realta chip makes the difference.
The DVD-A1XVA is also equipped to play CD, SACD, DVD-A, MP3, WMA, JPEG, PHOTO CD and DVD/CD -R +R discs and features a healthy array of outputs including HDMI, DVI, FireWire, DenonLink3, Progressive Component, Composite, S-Video and RGB SCART.
At £2,700 this is a serious piece of kit, but if you want to utilize your HDTV now without having to wait for Blu-ray/HD-DVD films to emerge (whenever that may be) then it could be money well spent.
