The last TV stand we saw with built-in surround sound was the
Evesham Soundstage X1 and, in all honesty, it was a bit ugly. Fortunately Sony hasn't made the same mistake. The Sony RHT-G800 comes in a lovely black sheen and has plenty of storage space for your DVD players and consoles.
Where this stand shows its worth however is in its features. Coming with five 'invisible' surround sound speakers at 70W per channel and two 120W subwoofers for a hefty bass punch, the RHT-G800 is compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS and 7.1-channel Linear PCM from Blu-ray - so is relatively future proof.
Supporting Sony's Theatre Sync, you can configure your system for optimal performance at the press of a button - assuming you have other TS products. You'll also find two HDMI ports but they'll only pass video up to 1080i (not so future proof after all then eh?), two line audio inputs, three optical digital and one electrical/coaxial digital.
The unit is scheduled for release next month with no word on price just yet.
