BSkyB buys Amstrad

BSkyB buys Amstrad
Amstrad, the company that made its owner a household name has been sold to BSkyB for a cool £125million.

Alan Sugar, better known now as the hard-talkin', fast-firin' star of the Beeb's TV hit The Apprentice, sold his 27.5% stake in the business and pocketed £35million for his troubles. It's not all over though, as Sugar will be staying on with the company to ensure his firstborn stays healthy. He commented, 'Sky is a great British success story. I'm proud to have worked so closely with it, and I look forward to continuing to play a part in this exciting business'.

Although this has come a little out of the blue, it does make sense - Sky is Amstrad's biggest customer. Approximately 75 per cent of all Amstrad's business is conducted with BSkyB, representing around 30 per cent of all its satellite boxes.

Let's just hope he doesn't get fired.
