Griffin Amplifi and Journi

Griffin Amplifi

All smooth curves and flashy eighties styling, Griffin's two new iPod speakers - one for the home, one for the road - certainly look like they mean business.

First up is Amplifi, for the home. A 2.1 system nestled into a compact tabletop footprint, it has a wood-based construction and acoustically tuned enclosure to ensure it sounds 'awesome'. Sonics are delivered via two 2.75in high/midrange speakers and a 5in subwoofer with bass reflex port. The Amplifi's docking port is specifically designed for the ubiquitous 'Pod from the mini all the way up to the 5th gen big boy, while a 3.5mm headphone jack caters to those of lesser tastes.

Second is the Journi, for the road. A self-contained unit, the 'Wrapstand' exterior protects the innards and the iPod for transport, simply flipping open for use and in doing so creating its own stand. Sporting internal rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries for a claimed ten hours music playback, SRS WOW digital signal processing should keep the stereo sonics up to scratch. The same all-accepting dock and 3.5mm audio jack are included as on the Amplifi, and there's a bundled remote.

The Amplifi retails at £130 and the Journi at £100 - both are available from August.
