InFocus IN81 & IN82

InFocus IN82

The latest additions to InFocus' 'Play Big' lineup, the IN81 and IN82 projectors are full 1080p playing monsters boasting the specs and sex appeal to take the market by storm.

Packing the latest Texas Instruments DLP DarkChip3 technology with BrilliantColor, the IN82 boasts a native 4,000:1 contrast ratio (boosted to 12,000:1 via the iris - but InFocus is one of the few manufacturers that's honest and doesn't just throw the 'big stats' at consumers to make its products sound better). ANSI lumens is rated at a video optimised 1,500, which is good enough to deliver film-standard D65K colour accuracy in all viewing conditions on screens up to 3.5m wide.

The slightly lesser IN81 also sports a TI chipset in the shape of the DarkChip2 with BrilliantColor, creating a native 3,000:1 contrast ratio (10,000:1 when iris enabled) and video optimised brightness of 1,400:1 ANSI Lumens on screens up to 3m wide.

Both Play Big models come supplied with integrated Pixelworks DNX ten-bit video processing, automatic colour gamut and black level calibration and digital vertical lens shift, amongst a swathe of other technologies.

Each also bears dual HDMI 1.3 inputs and comes supplied with a 2m HDMI cable and M1-to-HDMI adaptor.

Available come September, the IN81 retails at £2,500 and the IN82 at £3,000, and both look good enough to warrant the price.

These projectors DO NOT have lens shift. What you call "digital lens shift" is actually the keystone control. The difference: lens shift does not degrade the image quality; keystone does...
