Marantz CD6002 CD player

Marantz CD6002 CD player

Sometimes you've got to love being a consumer and watching the big guns blaze it out for the right to take our hard-earned. Take Marantz for example - a well respected crafter of top notch AV kit that often looks and performs better than many higher-priced rivals. The CD6002 CD player looks to be no exception, especially considering that ridiculous £270 price tag.

Weighing in at a hefty five kilos, this spinner caters to CD and CD-R/RWs as well as MP3 and WMA encoded discs and is tailored to work alongside Marantz's soon to be released PM6002 amplifier.

Packed to the max with high-end componentry and circuitry from Marantz's own top-end models alongside a raft of proprietary designs, everything is tailored towards optimum audio quality - a mindset usually reserved for much pricier machines.

Connectors include gold-plated stereo audio outs, coaxial digital out, optical digital out (all of which can be turned off to minimise interference) and Marantz D-BUS and headphone jack. Available with a black or silver metal chassis, the CD6002 arrives in September.

I've just parted with my (not so) hard-earned and bought one of these CD players and to say I'm pleased would be an understatement. I bought it in black and the finish is first rate - it very much looks to be of a higher price tag. some nicely thought out features. Sound is crisp and lively, detailed and refined - yes, it is all these things and more. A shame no SACD playing ability, but the option to plug via optical or coaxial add further scope for sound improvement.
