Felston DD340 Digital Audio Delay

The Felston DD340 is a device which claims to add lip sync correction to any AV amplifier/receiver when used with a digital audio source (DVD player, Sky+ box, certain Freeview boxes etc). It's designed to correct problems with the image processing performed by plasma screens, LCD screens and digital projectors, which can lead to lip sync errors.

The device connects between the source and amplifier using standard digital audio coaxial cable. A remote control is supplied to allow instant adjustment of any delay. Six user-programmable presets allow immediate retrieval of the most common delays you require. Since the audio signal is digital, the DD340 should theoretically reproduce it bit-perfect, with no loss in sound quality.

Felston claims the typical lip sync error found in a home cinema ranges from 40 to 100 milliseconds. The DD340 however can correct for between 0 and 340 milliseconds and is compatible with all the usual digital audio formats (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital EX, PCM, etc). It is also compatible with the high-spec format DTS 96/24, the maximum delay in that case being 170 milliseconds. Delays can be set to the exact millisecond, meaning perfect synchronisation is always possible.

Connections to source (DVD player etc) and AV amplifier are made on the rear of the unit via an input socket and an output socket, both RCA phono.

Size (WxHxD): 11x4x17cm
Weight: 4kg
Power consumption: 5 watts
Price: £182
