Hammersmith's Novotel once again played host to the UK's biggest combined hi-fi, AV and gadget fest with around 80 exhibitors and a feast of new products on show over the weekend.
Arcam Solo Movie 2.1, £1,450
Arcam showed off a reduced price version of the Solo Movie DVD/CD player and amp. It's got everything its predecessor has but ditches the surround sound capability for stereo and sub outputs and knocks around £550 of the asking price. It's due in the shops at the end of November.
Klipsch RoomGroove, £699
The iPod dock specialists have gone wireless with the system they first showed off at CES in January, but which they're now promising will actually come to the UK in January next year. The system is based on the £249 RoomGroove iPod dock and speaker (pictured) which can receive music from the CS-700 (£699) home cinema system along with up to eight other RoomGrooves.
Audio Pro Mondial, £150
These cute little bookshelf speakers come bound in classy-looking black or brown leather hide. they include a 3.5in bass/mid driver plus 1in dome tweeter and can also be wall-mounted. They can be used as a stereo pair or as satellites in a full 5.1 system including £299 standmount speakers and a £350 subwoofer.
Geneva Model XL, £1,300
Swiss-based Geneva demonstrated their huge iPod Dock of Doom, otherwise known as the Model XL. In a 55x61x37cm box weighing 38kg they've packed a brace of 8in subwoofers, two 5.25in midrange drivers and a pair of 1in tweeters. Behind the ipod dock is a drop-loading CD slot and there's an FM radio in there too. There are some more modest members of the Geneva family, including the £700 Model L and the £500 Model M.
Speakercraft Sonic Pictures, £800
Not a new concept exactly, but SpeakerCraft has hit on the idea of putting its in-wall speakers into a wooden frame and covering it with a canvas screen in a wide range of images. You can even add your own image - just supply the company with a digital version of original artwork or a photo and they'll get it printed onto a screen for £50 per speaker.
NAD C715 DAB, £375
NAD's new entry-level device combines CD player, AM/FM radio, 25wpc amp and a DAB radio. It's also available without the DAB for £50 less.
