Rumour has reached us of a new range of ultra thin TVs to be launched by the boffins at Hitachi, dubbed, not that surprisingly, the UT (Ultra Thin) range.
Due from April, May and June next year as 32in, 37in and 42in models respectively, the UT series will be a supermodel 35mm thin. Compare it to the current 32in Hitachi's bulging 123mm stats and that's some serious slimming down.
The larger models will be full HD with 1920x1080 pixel counts, while the 32-incher will rate at 1366x768.
Features will include with IPS Alpha technology to enhance brightness and colour, 6ms response time, 10,000:1 contrast ratio and fanless ventilation system.
There's no room for a TV tuner though, so Hitachi will be supplying it some time later (likely October) complete with HDMI, PC and DC connectors, meaning until this date the screens will be HDMI-equipped monitors only.
Weighing in at a lightweight 10.9kg and available in black and white with other colour schemes to follow, Hitachi is marketing the UT range's versatility as having 'unlimited freedom of space and movement'.
Price is TBC but this is a flagship product so expect it to begin from over £1,000 for the 32-incher, with the TV tuner likely to be another £200-300 on top.
