The bods at Hauppauge Digital have developed what they describe as a low-cost and easy way to enjoy live TV on your PC and to transfer home videos to DVD.
A plug-in TV receiver for laptops and desktop PCs, the Hauppauge WinTV USB2-Stick arrives with all the cables to connect camcorders and other equipment to capture digital video to disc, including S-Video, SCART and composite.
Connect it up to a TV aerial and the USB2-Stick tunes in to the terrestrial TV channels, turning your PC into a gogglebox.
You can watch shows in full screen or in a resizable window, and programmes can be recorded onto the PC hard disk with one click or scheduled to record at a later date.
Video captured on camcorder transferred via the USB2-Stick creates MPEG2 quality video files that can be edited and copied to DVD.
Bundled with the USB2-Stick is Ulead DVD MovieFactory software for disc authoring, installed from a separate disc to the Hauppauge software needed to run the USB2-Stick.
Minimum PC requirements include a soundcard and speakers to watch TV and DVD-R or DVD-RW drive to create DVDs.
Available now, the USB2-Stick is priced at £50.
