High-end audio manufacturer Krell has unveiled what it claims to be the world's best iPod dock. Called the KID (aka the Krell iPod Dock), Krell claims it delivers superb quality audio by acting as a custom interface between the iPod and a high-quality music system.
Instead of employing a lesser-quality dock or interconnect cable, it has crafted a unique cradle that uses the fully differential output of the iPod's internal DAC without molesting the signal in any way.
The unit houses a 255-step custom taper volume control designed to minimise interference while digitally controlled analogue bass and treble controls offer custom equalisation to level out sonic inconsistencies.
Internally all circuitry is Class A with balanced XLR and single-ended RCA phono outputs and an RS-232 protocol control for multi-room installs.
A 3.5mm jack rounds out the connectivity, opening up other music playing devices to the Krell's charms.
It's worth noting that the Krell will only be able to play tunes in as good a quality as they are stored. So heavily compressed MP3 files will not sound like a new CD whereas, say, AAC files at recorded at 256kbps or more will benefit from the quality of the components.
Available now, the Krell KID will cost you a hefty £1,350.
