According to reports online, the Beeb is planning to film the RBS Six Nations England versus Scotland rugby game in 3D for a select audience this month.
Although nothing has been finalised, it's expected that three 3D rigs comprising dual Sony HDC950s will be used to capture the game - one sitting up high for wide-angle shots and the other two at pitch level for getting in amongst the action.
The dual HD streams will then be transmitted multiplexed to downlink at Riverside Studios, then demulitplexed and combined on reception before being projected onto a large screen for a specific audience suited up with stereoscopic glasses - like a modern version of those cardboard glasses with the blue and red lenses.
On a related topic, Samsung has launched two 3D-capable plasma screens in Korea that we reported on from CES in Vegas back in January. The 42 and 50in screens will work with 3D content, 3D software and 3D glasses; the PAVV Cannes 450 offering a 30,000:1 contrast ratio while the Cannes 550 apparently offers 3D in HD and will retail for around the £2,000 price point.
No info on a possible launch in the UK as yet, so we'll just have to content ourselves with Auntie's offering instead.
