Miller & Kriesel, better known as M&K, has been creating post-production speaker systems for Hollywood Studios like Universal, 20th Century Fox and THX for nearly 30 years now. Which is why it's pretty exciting to see an overhauled 5.1-channel setup heading for our living rooms.
The package consists of two front LCR speakers, two active subwoofers in eight or 12in options and a final standalone surround sound speaker.
These professional quality speakers carry certain advantages concerning off-axis response, which effectively means you'll get the same surround sound experience no matter where you sit in the room, be it the sweet spot in-between all or the darkened corner to the far left.
It also means the sound reproduction should match exactly what the sound editor who put the film's sonics together heard, which can be no bad thing.
Brushed up aesthetically with magnetic grilles, wall brackets and a not unattractive if slightly boxy look, they will come at a fairly hefty premium ranging from £1,495 to £1,750 - enough to put them firmly in the realm of the audiophile consumer.
