Closure is now coming to the HD DVD debacle as the true cost of Tosh's allegiance to the failed format starts to come to light.
According to a report from the Nikkei business daily, Tosh is about to announce losses above those predicted, with a 2.3 per cent share drop expected as opposed to the initial spike the company enjoyed on news it was to abandon HD DVD for good.
The report loosely equates to a 100billion yen, or £485million, loss in its High-Def dealings against full-year operating profits for the company of 250billion yen, around £1.21billion, well short of its initial expectations.
Early predictions for the impact of HD was a 50billion yen loss, but because of the arrested manufacture and hence changes to the production line, that figure is to rise significantly.
'We did not announce this and therefore we cannot comment' came the Tosh response. Right, no more we promise!
