Sony Reveals BD-Live Titles

With the recent news that Sony's PS3 is to be BD-Live compatible, Sony Picture Home Entertainment has unveiled its first range of Profile 2.0 standard Blu-ray discs.

The first two titles set for release April 8 are a definite stab at the mainstream with dubious Arnie blockbuster The 6th Day and excellent comedy spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which will carry three featurettes only available via BD-Live download.

Each will feature downloadable cinema and home video previews alongside an FAQ about how BD-Live works.

BD-Live Profile 2.0 is an upgrade to the original Profile 1.0 Blu-ray players and offers extended features that range from picture-in-picture, ringtone and wallpaper downloads to peer-to-peer interactions, live virtual events and internet connectivity (something, incidentally, HD DVD offered from day one).

Taking the lead from Sony in the BD-Live war-to-be is Lionsgate Studios, which led the field with its January releases of War and Saw IV, though some would argue this was a little premature as there were no players to take advantage of the added content.
