Amazon.com's DRM-free MP3 download service is reportedly going great guns since its September 07 launch.
Now placed second only to Apple's iTunes store despite its short life thus far, Amazon's combination of DRM-free tunes, eclectic music catalogue that offers rarities not available on iTunes, and the cheaper pricing is clearly working for the retail giant. At launch some songs were as much as 40 cents cheaper than iTunes.
Amazon offers around 4.5million songs for download, considerably less than iTunes' 6.5million, though only 2million of these are DRM-free.
The Amazon MP3 store will be available worldwide eventually, but as and when remains a mystery for now.
