Sharp AQUOS X-series

A while ago we brought you news of Sharp's latest ultra-thin LCD TV range, the AQUOS X-series, where the company had achieved televisual svelteness by housing the majority of the TV's inner workings in a separate box that connects to the display via a single cable.

Now Sharp has announced a collaboration with semiconductor company AMIMON and done away with wires altogether. Instead the HDTV signal is transmitted from box to display wirelessly using 'WHDI' technology.

The WHDI can transmit its Hi-Def wireless signal from up to 30 metres away, through walls and has a latency of less than a millisecond, which means the box can be tucked away out of sight while the 34mm thin screen can be wall mounted with nary a wire on show.

The X-series arrives in 37, 42 and 46in flavours and is on sale in Japan already, with the AMIMON tech an optional extra. No word on a UK release or price point, but don't expect it to be cheap.
