Don't get us wrong, we love the Beeb's iPlayer service - it looks great, works a treat and means we'll never have to wait for the box set of Heroes ever again. But as many of us AVReviewers are of the Mac persuasion, it's been tough accepting the Windows-only platform by borrowing peoples' PCs to play catch up.
Now some resourceful Mac enthusiast called wizard_drongo has cooked up an application that prises the DRM from the iPlayer and downloads direct to the desktop using QuickTime.
The iPlayer Downloader as it's been dubbed is a one-click wonder - hit the “steal” button and welcome to the BBC's back catalogue, no time limits and no stopping you from copying to your heart's content.
Clearly this is all completely illegal and we would never endorse such behaviour, but it was bound to happen what with the BBC's pedestrian efforts to sort the service's compatibility with the Mac platform. The company has promised to resolve the compatibility issues by year-end, and hopefully experiences like this will galvanise them to get the hell on with it.
