Hugely respected turntable manufacturer Pro-Ject has released its latest endeavour, the Genie 2.
Claiming to deliver audiophile standards minus the expense, the Genie 2 is derived from Pro-Ject's RPM range of skeletal turntables and uses a peripheral drive for improved speed stability.
Also aiding performance is an inverted main bearing with close-tolerance bushes, a high torque yet quiet running synchronous drive motor decoupled from the plinth to minimise vibration and a machined MDF platter with felt mat.
The S-shaped 8.6in tone arm has a tube and bearing made from aluminium with high purity silver plated copper internal wiring and an Ortofon OM3e cartridge. Apparently, 'eccentrically mounted' counterweight reduces forces and hence 'dynamic wow' when playing warped records.
Fitted with both 33 and 45rpm speeds using the two-step gulley, the Genie 2 arrives in matt black and will sell for around £140.
