Just when we thought the whole 'mine's bigger than yours' contest was running out of steam after Panasonic's 150in plasma trumped everyone, Sharp has performed an LCD sucker punch and released its LB-1085 model, a 108in LCD whopper, claimed to be the world's biggest LCD.
Targeting business and commercial applications as opposed to the really, really ostentatious home user, the 1085 serves up 1920x1080 resolution with a contrast ratio of 1200:1.
Brightness is measured at 400cdm2, response time is 6ms and the viewing angle is promised at 176 degrees - impressive in a set this size.
Connections extend to S-Video, analogue RGB and DVI, highlighting the commercial bent with the first model 'taking pride of place' in the lobby of the Shinjuku Piccadilly cinema complex in Tokyo when it opens in July.
Sharp will be taking further orders for the monster telly with plans to sell it globally, though the estimated $100,000 price tag may put a few potential customers off.
